Football Executive Fired After Florida DUI Charge

Florida media outlets have reported that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fired one of their senior executives after he was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. The man was charged with DUI after a traffic incident during the early morning hours of Oct. 16. Later in the day, the team released a statement to the press announcing that the director of player development had been terminated.

Tampa police claim the vehicle being driven by the former director struck the rear of another vehicle while using the drive-thru window of a fast-food restaurant on Dona Michelle Drive shortly after 2 a.m. Responding police officers say that he showed signs of intoxication, including watery eyes and a lack of alertness. Officers also claim that the former director smelled strongly of alcohol. According to police, the man was taken into custody after refusing to submit to a blood-alcohol test at the scene.

Prior to being hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014, the man spent several years as the director of player development with the Chicago Bears. A press release from the Buccaneers said that the decision to fire the man was based on questions raised by the drunk driving incident and his ability to develop and mentor young players within the organization.
