We have all heard the statistic. About 50% of marriages end in divorce. It happens. We see celebrities celebrate their wedding day in secret only to end in divorce publicly. But we also learn from these highly publicized celebrities, that divorce doesn’t always mean doom and gloom. Divorce isn’t an ending. Divorce is recognizing that something isn’t quite right, and thankfully we have a society where we believe and empower people to stop something that just isn’t working for them instead of staying in an unhealthy relationship.

Let’s look at a few celebrity couples for inspiration:

  • Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, and actress Gwyneth Paltrow celebrated their year anniversary of “conscious uncoupling” in Mexico together. Their separation was easier because they agreed to do it.
  • Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez are reported to be best friends post-divorce. Their relationship ended on good terms even with their children in tow.
  • The most positive divorce is reported to be between Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. The best indicator of their good friend is to look at comments from their children. Their children said that they never felt “separation” while their parents were divorced. They stated that their parents did all they could to ensure that their children grew up as a household despite them living in different places.

In legal terms, these kinds of smooth transitions from marriage to divorce are considered “uncontested”. This means that each partner has agreed to do what needs to be separated beforehand. Our divorce lawyer at The Law Office Of Gustavo E. Frances, P.A. in Ft. Lauderdale understands that divorces are emotionally trying and can be financially exhausting. Unfortunately, as attorneys, there isn’t much we can do to help you emotionally. However, we will do our best to work with your situation in an efficient manner. This is why we encourage couples to try and talk through things outside of court.

Divorce: The Costly Edition

Unfortunately, the celebrity divorces that end well are few and far between. The ones that end in disaster are usually the most costly. Now, for celebrities, the divorce settlement typically ends in the millions. Our Divorce Attorneys understand that this may not be your case. Whatever the dollar amount, settling for more than expected hurts the wallet. The most costly divorces are those that are “contested”. This means that couples are fighting over what they do or don’t deserve. Contested divorces are costly because of the time spent mitigating what each partner wants and doesn’t want.

Divorce: Don’t Get Trapped

Our divorce attorney at The Law Office Of Gustavo E. Frances, P.A. understands that divorce means more than saying goodbye. It means dividing property, setting up alimony, and navigating children’s best interests. Our Divorce attorneys have seen the good and the bad.
