Getting arrested for drunk driving can be a difficult experience for any Florida resident. In addition to the criminal penalties that people may face, there can also be embarrassment and problems at work that follow a DUI.

Miami-based rapper Kat Dahlia is now dealing with some of the consequences that follow a drunk driving arrest. Recently, she was driving in Miami when she was pulled over and arrested. According to police, they saw a car driving 20 miles-per-hour over the speed limit with its headlights off. The police proceeded to pull over the 23-year-old’s car.

As police approached the car and asked Dahlia — whose real name is Katriana Huguet — for identification, police say they smelled alcohol. In addition, police allege that the young rapper had bloodshot eyes and very slurred speech. Eventually, the officers asked Dahlia to get out of her car. She complied with this request but eventually refused to participate in any sobriety testing. At this point, police tried to arrest Dahlia who resisted for a short time.

Police charged her for resisting arrest without violence and for DUI. She was taken to jail where she was held on a $2,000 bond.

While police may try to use Dahlia’s behavior during the stop to prove that she was driving under the influence of alcohol, it is unclear whether they know exactly what her blood alcohol content level was at the time of her arrest. It is important in every DUI case to make sure people question any tests that measure BAC level — including breath tests and field sobriety tests. The results of these tests can be inaccurate which could negatively affect those charged with DUI.
